Mediators
The ECODIR
Mediators panel is composed of lawyers and professionals
specialized in mediation. They are selected on the
basis of their high expertise and language proficiency.
Whenever
it is possible, the Secretariat will appoint a Mediator
able to speak the languages of each of the parties
and who is
familiar with the rights and obligations of the
parties.
The Mediator assists the Parties in
an independent and impartial manner in their attempt
to reach an amicable settlement. Guided by principles
of fairness and justice, as well as by the rights and
obligations of the Parties and the circumstances surrounding
the dispute.
Before being appointed, the Mediator
has to declare his or her impartiality and engage
himself or herself to
keep all the elements of the case confidential. They
also have an obligation to refuse to act in any
case
of conflict of interest.
A Mediator can be
replaced in cases of death, incapacity, or resignation
that is
accepted by the Secretariat. The Secretariat will
proceed with the appointment of a new
Mediator as quickly as possible.
